Origin: Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia, Indonesia (Borneo, Sumatra).
Difficulty: Medium to challenging, more suitable for experienced keepers.
Terrarium: Large, stable breeding tank with good ventilation. Preferably Ikea boxes 65l.
Substrate: Flake Soil, at least 25–30 cm high.
Egg laying: Takes place deep in the substrate; avoid disturbances if possible.
Larvae care: Individual housing recommended due to risk of cannibalism.
Larvae food: Exclusively Flake Soil, renew regularly/add new soil. Never replace completely.
Temperature: 22–25 °C constant, no strong fluctuations.
Humidity: Substrate slightly moist, but not wet.
Development time: Egg to imago approx. 18–24 months.
Pupal stage: About 2–3 months
Imago food: Beetle jelly, optionally supplemented with ripe fruit.
Special features: Very large larvae, slow growth, requires a lot of space.
